This Week’s Thought is sponsored by Mr. Joel Hirschey in honor of the Aufruf of his son, Moshe to be married to Chayala Carlebach, this Monday night. May the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents have much Nachas from this couple and all their children, for many years to come.

We find in this week’s Parsha that the Meraglim, who went to check out Eretz Yisrael, came back with a bad report, and because of this the Jewish Nation lost their desire to go to the land. They let out a cry, and for that, no one, who was then between the ages of 20 and 60, would ever see the land, and instead, it would be given to their children. This was also the first Tisha B’av, when Hashem said, “You cried for no reason, I will give you a reason to cry on this day, for generations.”

R’ Elimelech of Lizensk writes in his Tefillah, “Tein blibeinu shenireh kol echad maalos chaveireinu v’lo chesronam, shenedaber kol echad es chaveiro b’derech hayashar v’haratzoy lefanecha, v’al yaleh b’libeinu shum sinah m’echad al chaveiro chalila / Put into our hearts that we should see the good in our friends and not their faults, that we should always speak about our friends in a way that is right and correct in Your (G-d’s) eyes, and no hate should ever enter our hearts on any of our brothers, Chas V’Shalom.”

Friends, let us all try to be so careful in the way we talk about what Hashem, our dear Father in Heaven, holds dear, whether it is the people or the land He holds dear or the mitzvos and minhagim any time of year. If we do this, Hashem should bentch us that we should never face a sad Tisha B’av again, as we will celebrate it very soon, with the coming of Mashiach and the building of the Bais Hashlishi speedily in our days, Amen.

Good Shabbos and Mazal Tov,
Zevi
